Scope:
A thriving experience needed community, as well as resources
About the Client:
The National Clearing House for English Learners Acquisition (NCELA) is a part of the Department of Education Office of English Learners whose primary goal is to research, collect, and coordinate resources to support an inclusive environment for education for English learners that are K-12.
About the Project:
The Department of Education’s Office of English Learners Acquisition (NCELA) has a primary goal of researching and coordinating resources to support an inclusive environment for education for K-12 English learners. Their resources were compiled into a series of PDF books that they felt would be easier to use if created into an app. The National Clearing House for English Learners Acquisition (NCELA) gave a simple project brief of putting these books into an app for usability and accessibility.
About the Challenge:
The goal was to create a mobile app for families promoting inclusivity and accessibility in 75 days. However, the stakeholders were uncertain about the specific functionalities and features they wanted to include, and we lacked resources like user testing. In assisting the Senior UX Designer, we utilized testimonials, stakeholder interviews, and proxy personas to identify crucial features
About the Outcome:
The final product was an app that included features such as multilingual searches, real-time updates from the Department of Education, and information for parents about their rights and responsibilities in the education sector. Unfortunately, the project was canceled halfway through due to a lack of funding.
About the Process:
I supported the lead designer by taking detailed notes during stakeholder interviews and organizing the information into actionable tasks.
I created low and high-fidelity screens under the supervision of the lead designer for stakeholder buy-in
Continuous engagement with the community empowers families
Accessibility and inclusivity are the building blocks for growth
